Operations Manager Northern New Mexico Radio Foundation

The Operations Manager is responsible for the operations of KSFR radio station which includes, ensuring the station remains on air to deliver scheduled programming, working with schedule logs and applicable software and systems, equipment maintenance, provide staff development and programming oversight to assure compliance with FCC broadcast regulations.  Ability to be creative and harness new and innovative on-air and digital platforms to drive audience engagement.

Has working knowledge of technical radio engineering, federal requirements for non-profit broadcasting, and personnel management skills.

Interfaces frequently with the General Manager and Operations Staff, students, volunteers, and part-time workers at the radio station.

Examples of Duties

Assure compliance with FCC and FTC regulations for non-profit broadcasting stations to preserve the station`s licensure and continued operation. Act as Chief Operator of the broadcast facility and maintain records of station programming, operations and related records.

Perform technical repair and maintenance of broadcast facilities. Supervise all broadcast audio chain repairs conducted at the station`s facilities, transmitter or antennae.

Provide personnel training and development in radio operations. This includes recruiting and training students or volunteers in technical skills such as control room operation, broadcast techniques, equipment repair, and audio editing, as well as administrative support functions such as computer operations and student and volunteer performance review; enforcement of compliance to FCC regulations and appropriate broadcast content and discipline or termination if necessary.

Coordinate on-air fundraising activities to provide sufficient monies for continued operations; annual program fundraising revenues and donations.

Survey equipment needs, research products, and write bid specifications for anticipated purchases. Remain informed of technological developments in broadcast engineering.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Thorough knowledge of Federal Communications Commission regulations applicable to non-profit radio stations.

Thorough knowledge of technical radio engineering and ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot repair of broadcast equipment.

Ability to recruit, select, train, and supervise personnel.

Highly developed organizational, interpersonal communications, and coordination skills.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience in utilizing common office applications such as Word and Excel.  Ability learn and utilize Adobe Audition and other specialized applications. Ability to perform basic computer troubleshooting. Ability to understand the audio flow from source to transmitter and perform basic troubleshooting.

Extensive experience in radio station broadcast operations management a plus.

Demonstrated ability to perform the requirements of the job.

Previous experience in a non-profit setting preferred.

Work is performed in a broadcast station facility 24-7.

May travel to perform work at remote broadcast locations.

Must be able to respond to emergency situations during evening and weekend hours.

May require lifting of moderately heavy equipment from time to time.
